The Lodge Hideaway in Cowes Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to The Lodge Hideaway in Cowes, you immediately get the sense that someone put real thought into this place. It’s tucked away on Woodvale Road in Gurnard — honestly, if you didn’t know it was there, you’d probably drive right past it. That’s actually part of its charm though. The building has this refined, almost residential feel that makes it clear this isn’t your typical chain hotel. You know what really struck me? The way they’ve managed to create something that feels both polished and genuinely welcoming at the same time.
Location & Neighborhood
Here’s the thing about Gurnard — it’s one of those spots that locals know about but tourists often miss. You’re literally minutes from Cowes proper, which means easy access to all the sailing action and waterfront restaurants, but you get to retreat to this quieter residential area when you want some peace. The couples who stay here absolutely love this setup (they rate the location 9.5, which honestly doesn’t surprise me at all). You can walk to the water, explore the coastal paths, or just sit outside and actually hear yourself think. It’s that perfect balance between being close to everything but not in the middle of the chaos.
The Rooms
The accommodations here really showcase why this four-star property has earned such high marks from guests. Each room feels carefully designed rather than just decorated — there’s a difference, and you notice it immediately. The attention to detail is impressive without being fussy, and the comfort level is exactly what you’d expect from an upscale boutique property. What I particularly appreciated was how they’ve managed to incorporate local character into the design without going overboard with nautical themes (you know how some coastal places can get a bit heavy-handed with that).
The Experience
What sets The Lodge Hideaway in Cowes apart is this sense of discovery you get staying here. It’s not trying to be the biggest or flashiest place on the Isle of Wight — instead, it focuses on being really, really good at what it does. The staff genuinely seem to know the area well, which makes a huge difference when you’re looking for restaurant recommendations or trying to figure out the best walking routes. The whole place has this relaxed sophistication that works whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or just need a proper base for exploring the island.
Why Guests Love It
That 9.8 rating isn’t an accident — this place consistently delivers on its promise of being a refined retreat. Guests keep coming back because it strikes that rare balance between high-end comfort and genuine warmth. The location gets top marks because it offers the best of both worlds: close enough to Cowes for convenience, but far enough away to feel like your own private discovery. I mean, when couples specifically seek this place out and rate it so highly, you know they’ve figured out something special about creating the right atmosphere for a memorable stay.
Hotel on the Isle of Wight reservations spike for Walking Festival weeks, so hikers secure rooms months ahead.

Fantastic quite hidden location and Crystal was amazing. The apartment was spotlessly clean and Crystal even gave us a ride to the Red jet when we left. Highly recommend!

Excellent location to what we needed to do.Exemplary in every way – Emma from United Kingdom (10/10)
Exemplary in every way! Crystal and Dan have spared no expense in finishing this beautiful lodge to the highest standard. Tucked down a little lane only a short walk from the beach and a wonderful pub The Woodvale it provides a wonderful location to have as a base to explore from. Impeccably clean and beautilly modern in a jointly simplistic get luxe style. No stone has been left unturned in catering for guests from a fully functioning kitchen, helpful information book, cleaning products, emergency toiletries, plentiful towels, breakfast supplies, Sky TV with Netflix, cushions for the outdoor furniture, ample hot water, an additional fan/heater, cushions and blankets. Crystal was so helpful in providing an iron during our stay as well as assisting with travel. Whilst there we recommend a visit to Osbourne House, Coast Bar, The Garden and The Hut. We had the BEST much needed weekend break away from work and will definitely be back! Thank you.
