Holiday Inn Fareham Solent, an IHG Hotel Overview
First Impressions
Walking into the Holiday Inn Fareham Solent, an IHG Hotel, you immediately get that feeling of “okay, this actually works.” It’s one of those four-star places that doesn’t try too hard — the lobby is clean and modern without being flashy, and the staff genuinely seem to know what they’re doing. I mean, you can tell within the first five minutes whether a hotel has its act together, and this one clearly does. The whole place has this relaxed professionalism that makes you think they’ve figured out the sweet spot between business efficiency and actual hospitality.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about the location — you’re right in Fareham, which honestly gives you the best of both worlds. Portsmouth is just a quick drive away when you want proper city action, but you’re also perfectly positioned for exploring the South Coast without dealing with urban chaos. The hotel sits on Cartwright Drive, and while that might not mean much if you’re not familiar with the area, it’s actually brilliant for accessing both the M27 and local attractions. Couples seem to really get this location (the ratings back this up), probably because it feels like you’ve got your own little base camp for exploring Hampshire.
The Rooms
The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid Holiday Inn — nothing revolutionary, but everything works exactly as it should. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-brochure comfortable), and there’s enough space to actually unpack without playing Tetris with your luggage. What I particularly noticed was the attention to practical details — decent lighting for reading, enough power outlets where you actually need them, and a bathroom that doesn’t make you feel like you’re showering in a phone booth. The decor is contemporary without being trendy, which means it won’t look dated in two years.
Dining & Amenities
The restaurant does that reliable Holiday Inn thing where the food is better than you expect it to be. Breakfast is comprehensive without being overwhelming — proper cooked options alongside continental choices, and the coffee is actually drinkable. The fitness center is small but functional, and honestly, that’s all most people need. There’s also a bar area that works well for unwinding after a day of exploring or business meetings. You know what I appreciate? They don’t oversell their amenities — what they have, they do well.
Why Guests Love It
This hotel succeeds because it understands its role perfectly. You’re not paying for over-the-top upscale, but you’re getting solid four-star reliability in a location that actually makes sense for exploring this part of England. The staff seem to genuinely care about getting things right, and there’s something to be said for a place where everything just works smoothly. Recent guests consistently praise the location, and after staying here, I can see why — it’s that rare combination of being well-connected but not feeling like you’re stuck in a business park. For couples especially, it offers that perfect balance of comfort and convenience that makes a trip memorable for the right reasons.
Best hotels on the Isle of Wight blend Victorian conservatories, spa verandas, and chef tastings of local crab.

A very convenient location, a hotel that is welcoming and had good facilities. – David from United Kingdom (8/10)
I have stayed at this hotel several times. The food is is well presented, good quality and eaten in good surroundings. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and especially welcome is having a small settee to sit on rather than just a desk style chair. Lighting is good in the rooms which isn't always the case with hotels. Location is good with bus service nearby to the nearest station.
