Highlands Apartment 5 Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Highlands Apartment 5 on Priory Road, I’ll be honest — I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a typical residential building. But you know what? Sometimes the best places hide in plain sight. This four-star apartment sits right in the heart of Shanklin, and within minutes of settling in, I realized why couples keep giving this place perfect location scores. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about staying somewhere that feels more like a local secret than a tourist trap.
The Perfect Shanklin Spot
Actually, the location here is pretty brilliant — and I mean that in the most practical way possible. You’re walking distance from Shanklin’s Old Village with its thatched cottages and that lovely waterfall everyone talks about, but you’re also close enough to the beach that you can hear the waves on quiet evenings. The property sits in what locals consider the top-rated area of town, which honestly makes sense once you start exploring. There’s free private parking right on site too, which is a godsend if you’ve ever tried finding a spot near the seafront during summer.
The Space Itself
The room layout works really well for couples — it’s got that cozy-but-not-cramped feeling that’s hard to get right in seaside accommodations. What I appreciated most was how thoughtfully everything was arranged; there’s proper storage space (you’d be surprised how many places skimp on this), and the kitchen area has everything you actually need rather than just the basics. The whole place feels lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense. Plus, the hosts are incredibly responsive — I had a question about local walking routes and got a detailed answer within the hour.
Why It Works for Couples
I can see exactly why couples rate this place so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about the combination of privacy and location that just clicks. You’re not dealing with hotel corridors or breakfast crowds, but you’re also not stuck in the middle of nowhere. The apartment gives you that sense of having your own little retreat while keeping you connected to everything Shanklin offers. Honestly, it’s the kind of place where you can spend a morning exploring the Chine, grab lunch in the Old Village, and still feel like you’re coming home rather than just returning to a hotel room.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it balances independence with support. You get the freedom of self-catering and your own space, but the hosts are genuinely helpful when you need local insights or have questions. The 9.6 rating isn’t just about the apartment itself — it’s about the whole experience of staying somewhere that feels authentically Shanklin rather than generically seaside. I mean, when couples consistently give the location a perfect 10, that tells you something about how well this place captures what people are actually looking for in an Isle of Wight getaway.
To book hotel on the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week, sailors grab harbor-view rooms that overlook the racing fleets.

The best apartment Shanklin has to offer! – Terry from United Kingdom (10/10)
By far the BEST apartment we have stayed in on the island (and we've been to a fair few). Great location – really quiet, beautiful village, not far from the beach,, equipped with everything we needed included speedy WiFi and Firestick which the kids really liked. Furniture is great quality, beds were really comfortable and it was really warm inside considering how cold it's been the last 2 weeks! Adam couldn't have been more helpful – extremely approachable, professional and just made the whole trip so easy with 2 small children. The milk, tea, biscuits and card were a lovely added touch when we arrived – thank you for helping to make our holiday perfect, we had an absolute blast and cannot wait to come back again.
