Florence Suite Boutique Hotel and Restaurant Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Florence Suite Boutique Hotel and Restaurant on Malvern Road, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical chain hotel. The Victorian building has character — I mean, real character, not the fake kind developers try to create. It’s a four-star property that actually feels boutique, which honestly is harder to find than you’d think these days. The fact that they have their own restaurant right on-site was already a good sign, but I had no idea how much that would matter until dinner time.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I love about Portsmouth — you’re never really far from anything interesting, and this hotel proves that point perfectly. Couples seem to absolutely love the location (they rate it nearly 9 out of 10), and after spending a few days here, I get why. You can walk to Old Portsmouth and the historic dockyard without breaking a sweat, but you’re also tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with tourist crowds right outside your window. The parking situation is actually sorted too, which — let’s be honest — is half the battle when you’re driving into any UK city.
The Room Experience
The room itself exceeded my expectations, and I’m usually pretty picky about these things. The beds are genuinely comfortable — not just hotel-marketing comfortable, but the kind where you actually sleep through the night and wake up feeling human. The suites live up to their name with proper space to spread out, which you don’t always get even when places call themselves “suite” hotels. Everything feels thoughtfully designed rather than just thrown together, and the Victorian bones of the building add charm without making things feel cramped or outdated.
Dining & Food Quality
Now, about that restaurant — this is where the Florence Suite really shines. The food is legitimately excellent, not just “good for hotel food” but actually good, period. I ended up eating there both nights of my stay, which rarely happens because I usually want to explore local options. The kitchen clearly takes pride in what they’re putting out, and you can taste the difference. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself making dinner reservations before you’ve even checked out, just so you have an excuse to come back.
Why Guests Love It
What strikes me most about this place is how they’ve managed to nail the details that actually matter to travelers. The combination of a great location, genuinely comfortable accommodations, and excellent food creates this perfect storm of satisfaction. You know what really sold me though? It’s the kind of hotel where the staff seems to actually care about your experience, not just whether you’ve paid your bill. The 8.6 rating makes complete sense once you’ve stayed here — it’s not trying to be flashy or over-the-top, it’s just consistently doing everything well.

A pleasant night before we got on the ferry – Michael from United Kingdom (9/10)
A well located hotel which we used so that we could easily access Portsmouth Ferry Port the following day. There was secure parking available just off site, the price for which was competitive. Our room was very comfortable although we had to climb up a few flights of stairs to get there. TBF the polite staff member who accompanied us to our room (all staff encountered were friendly and helpful) offered to help carry our bags. We had an evening meal at the hotel which we enjoyed and the included breakfast hit the spot. The hotel seemed pretty flexible about leaving our car in the car park the next day so that was a nice touch. The beach was literally a 2 minute stroll from reception and it was nice to have a walk along the seafront reviving pleasant childhood memories. Would happily stay here again
