Clarendon View, Historic Apartment with Sea Views Overview
First Impressions
When I first spotted Clarendon View, Historic Apartment with Sea Views on Grove Road, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the outside — it’s tucked into a row of Victorian villas that look pretty standard for Ventnor. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you. This four-star apartment sits in one of those grand old buildings that the Isle of Wight does so well, and once you’re inside, the sea views hit you immediately. I mean, they’re not kidding about those views — you can actually see the English Channel stretching out toward France on a clear day.
The Space Itself
The room setup here is what really sets this place apart from your typical hotel stay. You’re getting a proper historic apartment with character — think high ceilings, original features, and windows that frame the coastline like paintings. The kitchen is fully equipped, which honestly saved me a fortune on dining out every night. There’s something quite satisfying about making your morning coffee while watching the waves roll in. The furnishings strike that perfect balance between respecting the building’s heritage and actually being comfortable to live in for a few days.
Location Perks
Ventnor’s got this lovely laid-back vibe that’s different from the busier parts of the island — it feels more like a proper seaside town than a tourist trap. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach, and the Cascade steps down to the seafront are right there when you want to stretch your legs. The town center has some decent pubs and cafes, plus that lovely botanical garden if you’re into that sort of thing. What I really appreciated was the free parking on site — anyone who’s tried to park near the coast during summer will know that’s worth its weight in gold.
Practical Considerations
The apartment works brilliantly for couples — actually, recent guests have rated the location 8.5 specifically for romantic getaways, and I can see why. There’s something quite special about having your own space with those sea views, rather than being stuck in a standard hotel room. The building’s got proper thick walls, so you don’t hear much from neighbors, and the whole setup feels more like staying at a well-appointed friend’s place than a commercial property. Just be aware that it’s a historic building, so don’t expect modern hotel amenities like room service or a front desk.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t about flashy facilities or over-the-top service — it’s about having a genuine base to explore the island from, with views that’ll make you want to sit with a cup of tea and just watch the world go by. The 9.1 guest rating speaks for itself, really. Couples seem to particularly love the combination of privacy, location, and those stunning sea views. If you’re after somewhere with character that doesn’t feel like every other seaside accommodation, and you want the freedom to come and go as you please, this place delivers exactly what it promises.
Isle of Wight’s hotels pair solarium lounges with concierge-led fossil walks along Compton Bay.

The location was perfect for us; a brief walking distance above Ventnor and offering a terrific view over the English Channel. The rooms were well sized, nicely furnished, and more than met our needs. We very much appreciated the owner’s kind offer for us to gain entry earlier than the standard 3pm time
