Thin End Overview
First Impressions
Walking up to Thin End on Ryde Road, you immediately get why this place has such a devoted following. It’s one of those four-star properties that doesn’t try too hard — just a beautifully restored Victorian building that sits perfectly in Seaview, looking out toward the Solent like it’s been doing for over a century. The name itself is charmingly quirky, referring to the building’s distinctive wedge shape that tapers toward the water.
Location & Setting
Honestly, the location is pretty much unbeatable if you’re looking for that quintessential Isle of Wight coastal experience. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Seaview Beach, and I mean literally — I timed it. The village itself is one of those places that feels almost too picturesque to be real, with its yacht club and the famous Seaview Hotel next door (which, by the way, has been serving proper Sunday roasts since 1860). What really struck me was how quiet it gets in the evenings, especially compared to the busier spots like Cowes or Sandown.
The Accommodation
Each room here has its own personality — some face the sea directly, others look out over the village rooftops. The interiors strike that perfect balance between period charm and modern comfort, with original features like high ceilings and sash windows paired with updated bathrooms and decent Wi-Fi. You know what I appreciated? The beds are actually comfortable, not just pretty to look at. Some of the sea-facing rooms have these lovely window seats where you can sit with your morning coffee and watch the sailing boats heading out.
Dining & Social Spaces
The restaurant downstairs serves what I’d call elevated pub food — nothing too fancy, but everything’s done well with local ingredients where possible. The fish comes straight from Portsmouth, and they do a particularly good job with the crab when it’s in season. Breakfast is served until a civilized 10 AM, which couples especially seem to appreciate (and honestly, who wants to rush on holiday?). There’s also a cozy bar area where locals actually drink alongside guests, which always feels like a good sign to me.
Why Guests Love It
What makes Thin End special isn’t any single grand gesture — it’s the accumulation of small things done right. The staff genuinely know the area and can point you toward the best coastal walks or tell you when the next Red Funnel ferry departs. There’s parking available, which is no small thing in Seaview during summer months. Most importantly, it captures that relaxed island atmosphere without feeling stuffy or overly formal. You’ll find yourself slowing down here, whether you planned to or not, and that’s exactly what a proper seaside break should do.
Savvy travelers reserve a hotel on the Isle of Wight before Garlic Festival crowds fill rustic farm retreats.

Lovely house however as it was raining the steps down are slippery and a warning should be given in the information
The steps should be scrubbed on a regular basis as moss has accumulated and outside the kitchen door as well and the pathway to the front door is slippery on wet days as wellVery good – Ian from United Kingdom (8/10)
