First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Summerhill Apartments on Culver Road, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a fairly modest building from the outside. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that surprise you. This four-star property sits right in the heart of what locals consider the best part of Shanklin, and once you step inside, you start to understand why couples keep raving about this place — they’ve given the location a near-perfect 9.6 rating, which is pretty remarkable when you think about it.

Location & Getting Around

The thing about Shanklin is that location really does make or break your stay, and these apartments have absolutely nailed it. I mean, you’re walking distance from the Old Village with its thatched cottages and that gorgeous chine that leads down to the beach. The parking situation is actually brilliant here — free private spots right on site, which is honestly a godsend because finding parking in this part of the Isle of Wight during peak season can be a proper nightmare. You can easily walk to the cliff-top lift that takes you down to the sandy beach, or wander up to the shops and cafes without worrying about your car.

The Apartment Experience

Each apartment feels more like staying in a well-appointed home than a typical hotel room. The spaces are thoughtfully laid out with proper living areas, and the kitchen facilities mean you can actually prepare your own meals if you fancy it — which I found particularly useful for breakfast or quick lunches between beach trips. The furnishings strike that perfect balance between comfortable and stylish, nothing too fancy but everything you actually need. What impressed me most was the attention to detail in the setup; someone clearly thought about how real people would use these spaces.

While there isn’t a restaurant on-site, that’s actually part of the charm here. You’re perfectly positioned to explore Shanklin’s food scene, from the traditional pub fare at The Crab Inn to the more upscale options in the Old Village. Having that kitchen means you can also pop down to the local shops and markets — there’s something quite satisfying about preparing a simple meal with local ingredients and enjoying it in your own space after a day exploring the island.

  The location was great. Flat is very well equipped. Lovely IOW jam left for us. It was great to have the wifi, but I also had a great phone signal. Very clean. Bed very comfortable. Kitchen roll, dishwasher tablets, tra towels, dishcloths all supplied, which I had brought as most places don't supply these things. Hot water and great shower.

  It was so spacious and very clean and was equipped with had everything we needed. We have a puppy, and the gated yard was so good to let her out into, to have a run around safely.
  It even had a separate raised garden with table and bench on the grass – just like a private ‘pub’ garden. Very nice.
  We felt at home right away. Lovely big smartTV, good wi-fi. Great kitchen, Two bathrooms. Excellent!

  Super location, quiet and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and great shower. Everything was as described and it all worked perfectly. Beds were super comfy, hard to get teenager up in the mornings, they said better than at home! Well supplied with all equipment needed as well as some lovely goodies as a treat. There is a freezer, not sure if that was mentioned in the details but great to stock up on ice-cream.
