Stattons Boutique Hotel & Restaurant Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Stattons Boutique Hotel & Restaurant on Florence Road, you immediately get the sense this isn’t your typical chain hotel. The Victorian building has character — I mean, you can tell someone actually cares about this place. It’s got that boutique feel without being pretentious, and honestly, the four-star rating feels about right. You’re in Portsmouth, so you’re close enough to the historic dockyard and Gunwharf Quays that you can easily walk to the main attractions, but far enough from the tourist crowds that it feels like a proper neighborhood.

The Room Experience

Here’s what I didn’t expect — the beds are genuinely fantastic. I know hotels always claim their beds are comfortable, but this place actually delivers on that promise. The room itself strikes that sweet spot between cozy and spacious, with thoughtful touches that show someone put real consideration into the design. The decor feels fresh without trying too hard to be trendy, and you’ve got everything you need without unnecessary clutter. What really impressed me was the attention to detail — proper blackout curtains, good lighting for reading, and outlets where you actually need them.

Location & Getting Around

The location is honestly one of the best things about staying here. Couples seem to love it (and I can see why), because you’re perfectly positioned to explore Portsmouth on foot. The historic waterfront is just a pleasant stroll away, and if you want to head to Southsea for the beach or some decent pubs, it’s totally doable. There’s parking available too, which — trust me — is a big deal in this part of town. You won’t be circling the block looking for a spot after a day out.

Dining Experience

Now, about that restaurant — it’s not just hotel food, it’s actually good food. I was skeptical at first (hotel restaurants can be hit or miss), but the meals here are genuinely worth your time. The menu changes seasonally, and you can tell they’re working with quality ingredients. Even if you’re not staying here, locals come for dinner, which tells you something. Breakfast was solid too — nothing fancy, but well-executed and fresh.

Why Guests Love It

What makes Stattons work is that it feels authentic rather than manufactured. The staff know what they’re doing without being overly formal, and the whole place has this relaxed confidence that’s hard to fake. You’re getting genuine boutique hotel charm in a city that’s often overlooked by tourists rushing off to London or Bath. Portsmouth has its own appeal — maritime history, decent food scene, and that slightly gritty port town character — and this hotel captures that perfectly. It’s the kind of place you’d actually recommend to friends, not just because it’s fine, but because it’s genuinely good at what it does.

To book hotel on the Isle of Wight for Cowes Week, sailors grab harbor-view rooms that overlook the racing fleets.

Arrival/welcome was very positive. Staff were friendly and super helpful.
I found parking outside my hotel unit quite easily.
The breakfast was very good. I had poached eggs on toast (very nice) and a pot of coffee (excellent coffee) sitting outside on their terrace in the sunshine. Very relaxing, quick and friendly service.
The bed was very comfortable. Nice duvet and lovely bedding.
Selection of coffees/teas was good and the Lakeland milk sachets are so much better than the long life pots.
