One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe on a quiet street in Newport, you immediately get the sense this is something special. It’s not flashy or trying too hard — just this perfectly restored building that feels like it belongs exactly where it is. The four-star property has that welcoming vibe where you can tell the owners actually care about what they’ve created here on the Isle of Wight.

Location That Actually Matters

Honestly, the location is what sets this place apart — recent guests rated it 9.3, and I can see why. You’re right in Newport’s heart, which means you can walk to proper shops, grab supplies, or find a decent pub without needing a car for everything. What’s brilliant is that couples especially love it here (they gave it a 9.1 rating), and I think it’s because Newport strikes that perfect balance between having things to do and feeling peaceful. You’re also perfectly positioned to explore the rest of the island — Cowes is just up the road, and you can reach the southern beaches without much fuss.

The Room Experience

The room I stayed in had this lovely mix of modern comfort and character that you don’t always find. Nothing felt cookie-cutter or like it came from a hotel supply catalog — there were thoughtful touches that made it clear someone put real consideration into the design. The bed was genuinely comfortable (not just hotel-marketing comfortable), and the bathroom was well-appointed without being over the top. You know what I appreciated? Proper lighting for actually reading and getting ready, plus enough space to spread out your things without living out of a suitcase.

Breakfast Worth Waking Up For

The breakfast situation here is actually impressive — they’ve got everything from continental options to full English, plus vegetarian, vegan, halal, gluten-free, kosher, and Asian choices. I mean, that’s quite a range for a hotel this size. The quality was solid too, not just quantity for the sake of it. The cafe downstairs has this relaxed atmosphere where you can linger over coffee without feeling rushed, and the staff seemed to genuinely know their regulars, which always says something good about a place.

Why Guests Love It

With an 8.9 overall rating, this hotel clearly gets the fundamentals right — but what makes it special is how it feels more like staying somewhere with personality rather than just booking a room for the night. The combination of that excellent location, thoughtful service, and genuine character makes it the kind of place you’d actually recommend to friends visiting the Isle of Wight. It’s not trying to be the fanciest option on the island, but it delivers exactly what you want: comfort, good food, and a base that enhances rather than complicates your stay.

Reviews of One Holyrood Hotel & Cafe

  • Enjoyable stay for vegan cyclists – Kerry from New Zealand (9/10)

Lots of great things to say about this place. There was a place to store our bikes out in the garden, they provided us with a fan for our room as it was hot weather during our stay, there were hot and cold vegan options for breakfast which were delicious, the coffee at breakfast was brill, the building and garden were beautiful and well kept, we had an exterior key so could come and go as we pleased, and finally… the staff were all wonderful, from the owners to the restaurant staff to the housekeepers. Would 100% recommend.
