When I first pulled up to Highlands Apartment 3 on Priory Road, I honestly wasn’t expecting much — it’s tucked away in a residential area that feels more like a proper neighborhood than a tourist zone. But you know what? That turned out to be exactly what made it special. This four-star apartment sits in what locals consider the best part of Shanklin, and after spending a few days here, I can see why couples rate it so highly for romantic getaways.

The Space Itself

The apartment feels like staying in someone’s well-appointed home rather than a typical hotel room. There’s a proper kitchen with everything you actually need — not just the bare minimum you sometimes get in self-catering places. I mean, they’ve got decent knives, a proper coffee maker, even spice basics. The living area flows naturally into the dining space, and honestly, it’s the kind of setup where you can picture yourself settling in for a week without feeling cramped. The bedroom is generous too, with windows that let in loads of natural light during the day.

Location Perks

Here’s what I love about the location — you’re close enough to walk into Shanklin’s center and down to the beach, but far enough up the hill that you escape the summer crowds. The Old Village is just a short stroll away, and if you’re into those thatched cottage Instagram shots, you’ll find plenty there. Plus, there’s free parking right on site, which is actually a big deal in this area during peak season. I watched other visitors circling the streets looking for spots while I just pulled right in.

The Shanklin Advantage

What struck me about staying here versus some of the busier coastal spots is how Shanklin still feels like a real place where people live, not just a tourist destination. You’ve got the dramatic Shanklin Chine nearby — this Victorian-era ravine walk that’s genuinely atmospheric, especially in the early morning before the day-trippers arrive. The beach is lovely too, with those classic Isle of Wight colored sand cliffs, and there’s a decent restaurant scene in town that doesn’t feel completely geared toward tourists.

Why Guests Love It

The property management here actually responds quickly when you have questions, which sounds basic but you’d be surprised how rare that is with vacation rentals. The whole setup works particularly well for couples — there’s something about having your own space, your own front door, that feels more intimate than a hotel corridor. The 9.7 rating makes sense when you experience it firsthand. It’s not flashy or trying too hard, just a really solid base for exploring this part of the island. And honestly, after a day of walking the coastal paths or exploring Ventnor, coming back to your own little retreat with that kitchen and comfortable living space feels pretty perfect.

  Very clean facilities and furnished to highest spec and most things seemed like new. The beds were really comfy and we slept well even though on strange beds. It was a lovely warm flat to return home to after long nature walks or wet shopping days.
  The location was great too for local transport, attractions and walks.
  Shanklin was a great place to stay for your first time to the Isle of Wight.
