The location is genuinely exceptional — I mean, there’s a reason couples rate it a perfect 10. You’re in what locals consider the best part of Shanklin, just a short stroll from the Old Village with its thatched cottages and that famous chine leading down to the beach. What I loved most was being able to walk to the cliff-top gardens in minutes, yet feeling tucked away from the typical seaside crowds. The area has this perfect balance where you can grab fish and chips or find a proper restaurant for dinner without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist strips.

The Room Experience

My room was spotless — and I’m someone who notices these things. The décor strikes that tricky balance between traditional guest house charm and modern comfort, with quality linens and a bathroom that actually has decent water pressure. The windows let in plenty of natural light, and honestly, the attention to detail reminded me more of a boutique hotel than your typical B&B. Everything felt thoughtfully chosen rather than just functional, from the furnishings to the amenities provided.

  We had a warm welcome from our lovely hosts who throughout our stay were really friendly and helpful.
  Our room was lovely, beautifully decorated and the en suite bathroom was very well appointed with good quality toiletries provided. Everything was spotlessly clean.
  There were plentiful supplies of beverages, biscuits, fresh milk and mineral water. The breakfast was all freshly prepared and there was a lot of choice.
  Overall we were very happy with the Birkdale guest house, we would definitely recommend them.

  Colin and Leslie are the most wonderful hosts, welcoming, considerate when dealing with breakfast requests and accommodating. The rooms are amazing especially rooms 4 and 5. Helpful in advising how to get to them and plenty of places to visit leaflets. Exceptional value for money.
