1 Star Cottages

1 Star Cottages Overview

First Impressions

Freshwater is one of those corners of the Isle of Wight that feels genuinely tucked away from the rest of the world, and 1 Star Cottages fits right into that mood. Pulling up and finding free private parking already waiting for you — no circling, no stress — sets the tone nicely. It’s a four-star property, but it doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard to prove that. There’s a quiet confidence to the place that you notice almost immediately.

Location & Neighbourhood

Freshwater sits at the western tip of the island, which means you’re close to some seriously dramatic scenery — Tennyson Down, the Needles, long stretches of coast that feel almost deserted even in summer. Honestly, the location score here is a 9.5 from recent guests, and I’d say that’s earned. You’re not stuck in a busy resort town; you’re somewhere that actually feels like the Isle of Wight, if you know what I mean. Walks straight from the door, proper countryside, the kind of air that makes you feel like you’ve genuinely got away.

The Cottages Themselves

There’s something about staying in a cottage rather than a standard hotel room that just changes the whole experience. You get a sense of space and independence that a corridor-and-lift setup can’t really replicate. At 1 Star Cottages, that self-contained feel is a big part of the appeal — it’s your own little world for however long you’re staying. The four-star finish means you’re not roughing it either; it’s comfortable and well put together without feeling overdone.

Perfect for Two

Couples in particular seem to fall for this place, and it’s not hard to see why. There’s an intimacy to the setting — Freshwater isn’t loud or crowded, and the cottages themselves lend themselves to that slower, more private kind of trip. I mean, if you’re looking for somewhere to properly switch off with someone rather than just tick off tourist spots, this sort of place makes a lot of sense. The rating here is a perfect 10, which is rare, and a lot of that seems to come from couples who felt like the place genuinely delivered on the promise of a peaceful escape.

Why Guests Love It

When a place scores a 10, you do start to wonder if it’s just a fluke — but reading through what guests actually say, it feels consistent. The location does a lot of the heavy lifting, but so does the overall experience of staying somewhere that feels personal rather than generic. Free parking is one of those things that sounds small but genuinely matters when you’re arriving with bags and bikes and all the rest of it. And being on the Isle of Wight at all is sort of half the point — it’s an island, it takes a little effort to get to, and that effort pays off when you’re somewhere like 1 Star Cottages with nothing much to do except enjoy where you are.
